CM to launch UJALA scheme in Kashmir on Sept 6


SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 5: Chief Minister, Ms Mehbooba Mufti will launch the Unnat Jyoti by Affordable LEDs for All (UJALA) scheme in Srinagar tomorrow.

Under the scheme, consumers will be able to buy high quality LED bulbs at a discounted rate of Rs 20 each. The scheme is being implemented by Jammu and Kashmir Power Development Department (PDD) in collaboration with Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), a joint venture of leading PSUs under the administration of Ministry of Power, Government of India.

With the formal launch of UJALA scheme in Kashmir, the consumers in the Valley can purchase upto five LED bulbs of 9W each at a subsidized rate of Rs 20 per bulb as against the market price of Rs 250 to Rs 300.  The consumers shall have to produce a photocopy of the photo identity card and electricity bill for the purchase of LED bulbs under the scheme.

The aim of the state government is to distribute over 80 lakh bulbs to over 16 lakh households in the state. With the distribution of these LED bulbs the state will have energy savings of 28.27 lakh KW every day. Consumers can buy the UJALA LED bulbs from nearest Khidmat/CSC Centres.
