Srinagar, February 27: Police has made a claim to have arrested a “kingpin” involved in a fake marriage racket on Friday.
The police also arrested his accomplice and recovered cash and gold from him which the man has acquired by duping innocent people. Other six members of the same gang were arrested by police few days back.
The “kingpin” of the duper gang has been identified as Amin Wani who is the son of Ghulam Nabi and lives in the Tangmarg area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district. He was arrested from his home on Friday.
Another man named Rasool Lone who works as the accomplice of Amin Wani was also arrested the same day. Both the men were produced before Sub-Judge Pattan and was remanded for next three days. The other six members arrested by police are identified as Latif Pandit, his wife Amina Begum, Latif Wagay, his wife Atiqa Begum, Shamima Begum and Atiqa Bano.
The police said that these people were running a racket where they approach prospect grooms as middle men/woman and fix their wedding with a woman who is one of their partners. After getting married, the woman and her makeshift family used to run away with gold ornaments and cash, which they received from groom’s family as part of the marriage ceremony.
