Congregational prayers allowed at Jamia Masjid after nineteen Fridays
Congregational Friday prayers were offered at historic Jamia Masjid today after remaining barred for nineteen consecutive weeks.
Witnesses said that siege was lifted from the areas surrounding the mosque in downtown Srinagar today for the first time in the ongoing unrest triggered by the July 8 killing of militant commander Burhan Wani.
A large number of people offered prayers at the mosque today, they said.
However, Hurriyat (M) chairman and chief priest Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who delivers the sermon every Friday at the mosque, continued to be placed under house arrest.
