Jammu: To strengthen the party and infuse new spirit among the cadres, Indian National Congress geared up for an intensive membership drive in the state.
A meeting of Provincial Level Membership Drive Committee was held here, today at PCC HQ Shaheedi Chowk, Jammu to chalk out strategies for undertaking a massive enrollment drive to induct new members into the party-fold.
The meeting was presided over by Chairman of the Membership Drive Committee for Jammu Province Shri Sham Lal Sharma Ex-Minister and attended by S/Shri Raman Bhalla, Dr. Manohar Lal Sharma Shabir Ahmed Khan, S. Manjit Singh (ex-Ministers), Th. Shiv Dev Singh EX-MLA, Brij Mohan Sharma and Smt. Kanta Bhan.
Sh. Sham Lal Sharma said that Congress is being widely accepted by the people in the state and the people’s faith in the party has been fully revived and added that it is high time to open the doors for induction of new members in the party fold. He further said that membership drive shall be conducted at the grass root level in all the Districts, Tehsils, Block and Panchayats.
The meeting discussed various ways and means to involve maximum people including women and youth in the Congress party with the active participation of District Presidents, Block Presidents, contested candidates and frontal organizations. It was also stressed that due representation should be given to SC, ST and OBC in the organization.
The meeting also finalized the details for the formal launch of membership drive in Jammu, during the next few days. The massive membership drive will lead to the enrollment will be undertaken till February 28, 2014.
