Congress may contest alone in Assembly polls


Another Congress legislator quits Punjab assemblyCongress leaders from Jammu and Kashmir met the AK Antony panel assessing the party’s debacle in the recently concluded General Election and said issues around the National Conference-Congress alliance cost the party dear in the state.

The Congress leaders asserted that they should go it alone in the Assembly elections and project a Jammu leader as its Chief Ministerial candidate. The Assembly elections are scheduled to be held in November-December this year.

Meanwhile, prior to the Congress leaders meeting with the Antony Committee, AICC (I) general secretary, Incharge Jammu and Kashmir, Ambika Soni, Azad and Soz had a separate meeting to discuss the party strategy for the Assembly elections and apprised AICC (I) chief Sonia Gandhi about Jammu and Kashmir Congress leaders and workers stand that the party shouldn’t go for pre-poll alliance with the NC.

The four-member group, which was formed about a fortnight ago, is led by AK Antony. The other members of the group are Congress general secretary Mukul Wasnik and Congress secretaries Avinash Pande and RC Khuntia.
