Kathua, June 24: BJP State General Secretary and MLA Kathua, Rajiv Jasrotia Wednesday reviewed arrangements for Foundation Stone Laying programme for Construction of 2-lane Bridge (length- 1210 meter and 7.50 km approach road, cost Rs. 158.84 crores) over Ravi River at village Keerian-Gandial, under Inter State connectivity (ISC) of CRF Schemes Sh Nitin Gadkari, Hon’ble Union Minister, Road Transport, Highways and Shipping on June 26th at 1:30 PM.
Giving details about the programme, Jasrotia said that the function will be presided over by Jenab Sayed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari, Hon’ble Minister, State PWD (R&B) in the gracious presence of Dr. Jitendra Singh,Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space and Shri Nirmal Singh,Deputy Chief Minister, J&K Govt, Shri Sunil Kumar Sharma.Hon’ble Minister of State for Public Works (R&B) & Revenue Government of Jammu & Kashmir.Shri Shamsher Singh Manhas Hon’ble Member of Parliament,Rajya Sabha, Shri Jugal Kishore Sharma, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha will be guests of honour.Giving significance of project, Jasrotia said that this project will facilitate for the people of Keerian, Gandial, Ram Nagar and their hamlets which are the only villages of J&K situated across the Ravi river i.e. on the left bank, at a distance of about 8 kms from Kathua via Bhagatali. However, the people have to detour more than 45 kms distance to reach tehsil and district Headquarters at Kathuaas there is no bridge over Ravi river. The whole area comprising of about 1375 hectare land which is irrigated and have high yielding potential. More than 55% of the total population of the area is scheduled Caste and Scheduled tribes. After construction of this bridge, detour of more than 45 kms distance will be reduced.
This bridge will be of immense importance as this link will improve connectivity between J&K and Punjab significantly by reducing the distance and the duration of travel journey. Further, this will benefit w.r.t. overall socio-economic development of the region as well as it will also boost local trade and tourism between these two States.
