Shopian: Army on Thursday said it killed two Hizb-ul-Mujahideen militants in a brief gunbattle in Shopian district of south Kashmir.
The slain militants were identified as Waseem Malla of Pehlipora Shopian and Naseer Pandit of Karimabad Pulwama.
An official said that the duo were trapped in a house in Vihil village of the district.
“The house was cordoned off by the forces. But the duo tried to escape from the cordon by opening indiscriminate fire. The fire was returned and the duo were killed in a field outside the village,” said the official.
Pandit, a former cop, had run away with weapons from former Works minister Altaf Bukhari’s residence in Srinagar last year.
The duo was part of Hizb commander Burhan Wani’s group.
