A local court in Budgam has rejected the bail application of hardline Hurriyat leader Masarat Alam Bhat. Alam’s counsel Shabbir Ahmad told that the court has rejected his bail application and the grounds on which the plea was rejected will be known when a detailed order copy will be issued. The separatist leader was arrested last week on charges of waging war against the country and sedition. He was booked under Public Safety Act this Thursday and was shifted to Kotbhalwal Jail in Jammu.
Bhat was arrested on April 16 in the case related to hoisting of Pakistani flag and anti-India slogans during a rally in Hyderpora area of Kashmir, organized to welcome Hurriyat leader Geelani. A case had been registered against him and several other leaders for provocative activities.
Meanwhile, a shutdown is being observed in the valley on Saturday, to protest against the detention of Hurriyat leader Masarat Alam Bhat under the Public Safety Act (PSA).Most of the shops, business establishments and schools are closed while as traffic is off the roads however, private transport is plying normally.
