Crack down on vendors at Railway Station; 4 booked by Legal Metrology for overcharging

JAMMU, JUNE 25: Acting swiftly on the complaints of tourists being fleeced by unscrupulous traders and to ensure that quality eatable are being sold in the market, Deputy Commissioner Jammu Simrandeep Singh constituted a team of Deputy Controller Legal Metrology, SDM South, Assistant Director CAPD, Tehislsdar Bahu, Food & Drug department and concerned SHO’s to conduct extensive checking of shops dealing with eatables and other items of tourist interest.
In this connection, the Legal Metrology Department conducted checking of eating joints at Railway Station.
During inspection of M/s Annpurna Bhojnalya it was found by the team that tourists were being overcharged and a case of overcharging was registered by Inspector Legal Metrology under the relevant provisions of law. The rates were corrected on the spot in the interest of the consumers and instructions were issued to serve quality food items.
M/S Vaishnavi Restaurant was also found cheating gullible consumers by overcharging on the pretext of being a Restaurant. On scrutiny of the documents, it was found that the said Dhabha is not registered with the appropriate department to be classified as a Restaurant and hence booked for overcharging.
The team also inspected Dry fruit sellers and handicraft items seller. The traders were booked for violations of non marking of mandatory declarations for the information of consumers like MRP, PKD, Net Weight and address of the manufacturer on all the packed saleable items. All the deceptive packages were seized and the traders were warned to adhere to the law failing which stringent action will be taken in future.
