SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 15: Chief Secretary, B R Sharma Tuesday reviewed the progress of development projects taken up by Economic Reconstruction Agency (ERA) in Srinagar city under the Urban Sector Development Investment Program (USDIP), financed by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) through a multi tranche financing facility.
The Program aims at expanding the basic services like water supply, sewerage, sanitation, drainage, solid waste management, transport and other municipal functions in urban centers of the State including Srinagar City.
Chief Secretary received brief on the physical and financial progress of projects including the Elevated Expressway Corridor (Flyover) from Jehangir Chowk to Rambagh, Surface Water Drainage System in the adjoining areas of NH-Bypass and Construction of Cell-3 at sanitary landfill site, Achan.
Stressing on expediting the construction work on the flyover project, Mr Sharma asked PHE, PDD, BSNL and other concerned departments to urgently take up the work on shifting of utilities and remove encroachments /structures impeding the construction process.
Chief Secretary reviewed the status of Surface Water Drainage System in the adjoining areas of NH-Bypass including, Athwajan, Pantha Chowk, Rawalpora, Pohru, Chanapora, Bemina and Tengpora. The project including the construction of trunk drains, main and sub main drains and four pumping stations will establish a efficient drainage system and prevent water logging and flooding in these areas.
Progress on the development of the solid waste disposal site at Achan under the project was also reviewed by the Chief Secretary with directions to expedite the construction of Cell-3 and taking steps to increase the useful life of the landfill site as well as protecting the environment.
Commissioner Secretary, H&UD, Bipul Pathak, Commissioner SMC, Showkat Ahmad Zargar, Chief Engineer’s of PHE, PDD, ERA and other senior officers attended the meeting.
