Ara, Tantray get Akbar Jaipuri Memorial awards
SRINAGAR: J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages and Akbar Jaipuri Memorial Committee Thursday jointly organized a function in the memory of late poet-writer, Akbar Jaipuri.
Noted Urdu critic and former Vice Chancellor, University of Kashmir, Prof. Hamidi Kashmiri was the chief guest on the occasion while noted broadcaster Farooq Nazki presided over the function.
Describing the late poet-writer as trendsetter Prof. Hamidi said that the contribution of late Akbar Jaipuri to Urdu literature was immense.
Echoing similar sentiments Farooq Nazki said that the kind and nature of work done by the late poet-writer was such that he deserved to be remembered and commemorated.
Terming the contribution of Akbar Jaipuri as commendable, President Employees Joint Action Committee, Abdul Qayoom Wani said that the younger generation of Kashmiris must follow his footsteps.
Earlier in his welcome address Secretary Academy, Dr. Aziz Hajini said that ever since he took over as Secretary, it has been his endeavour to identify and celebrate the works of unsung doyens of literature and today’s function was part of the exercise.
As part of the function, Syed Abbas Jowhar and Rafiq Raaz read papers on the life and works of the late writer.
Later Akbar Jaipuri Memorial awards were also presented to Urdu poet Pathan Shabina Ara, and academic, Mukhtar Ahmad Tantray.
Among others the function was attended by Prof. Nasir Mirza, Rukhsana Jabeen, Ghulam Nabi Shahid, Mushtaq Nehvi, Mohammed Amin Bhat, Aijaz Ahmad Kakroo, Salim Jaipuri and Syed Yaqoob Dilkash.
