Curfew in Pulwama after protest against killing of a local militant
Srinagar, December 25: The administration have implemented curfew in Pulwama where massive protest demonstration have been happening since this morning against the killing of a local militant.
As per reports, Pulwama is reported to be the home district of deceased rebel identified as Omais Ahmad sheikh, son of Farooq Sheikh who killed in a brief encounter with army in Ajas area in Bandipora late last evening.
As per police, Omais was Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) operative. He was studying in college but then he dropped college and joined LeT in June earlier this year
As the news of his killing spread, clashes have been erupting in south town of Pulwama as hundreds of youth defying restrictions came on streets and raised anti-India slogans and pelted stones on police and CRPF who retaliated by tear smoke shelling. To prevent apparent massive participation of people in the funeral prayers, the authorities imposed curfew in Pulwama in the wee hours today to keep the situation under control.
A heavy contingent of police and paramilitary personnel has been deployed across the town.
