Srinagar: Authorities on Monday re-imposed curfew after clashes erupted during relaxation hours in Handwara town of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
Witnesses said that people took to roads in Handwara town as soon as curfew was relaxed today morning and staged massive protests.
Police and paramilitary forces deployed in the area used teargas shells to disperse the protesters.
Earlier, the authorities had announced relaxation from 8-11am in the curfew which remains imposed in the area from past five days, following the killing of three civilians, including a woman, in army firing on locals protesting against an alleged molestation bid by a soldier in Handwara town on Tuesday.
Two more people were killed in subsequent protests after army opened fire and police burst tear smoke shells on protesters.
Meanwhile, Kashmir University students assembled in University campus and are protesting over recent Handwara Killings.
