DAK calls for medical emergency dialing system

Srinagar, Feb 01: Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) today called for emergency dialing system for medical assistance which will help in saving lives.

Terming it as a life saving tool President DAK Dr Nisar ul Hassan in a statement said that a reliable communication system makes all the difference between saving a life and experiencing ultimate loss.

Emergency calling system will reduce time to treatment as it is the time which can be a difference between life and death in an emergency patient.

This system which is in practice in other parts has reduced the mortality and morbidity in emergency patients and has significantly improved patient outcomes.

This will provide the benefit of on-scene resuscitation by trained staff and will speed the transportation in a fully equipped ambulance to the nearest hospital so critical for survival of these emergency patients.

The emergency medical team will provide as much of medical care as possible while en-route besides alerting the hospital before the arrival of ambulance giving staff time to prepare which can get a patient to treatment faster.

Moreover the team accompanying patient will receive priority attention in hospitals without wasting critical time.

Many people die or are disabled from heart attack, stroke and trauma because they do not get life saving treatment in time.

Getting the right patient to the right place in time is key to saving lives and reducing disabilities.

Majority of these patients are not getting optimal treatment as too much time is lost between onset and treatment.

Heart attacks are not treated with primary PCI, the most effective treatment for them and ischemic strokes do not receive the most beneficial treatment which is thombolysis.

The trauma patients die as they are not moved rapidly from the scene of injury to a health-care facility.

We have helicopter services for sightseeing but no system in place to save lives and it seems that the value of life has been lost in healthcare planning.
