KATHUA: Deputy Commissioner, Kathua, Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary convened meeting of 39 Panchayats of Kathua block as a part of series of meetings being organised at every block to strengthen devolution of powers to panchayats and involving them in planning and development process. Assistant Commissioner Development Tilak Raj, ExEn REW and BDO Kathua Sohail Ahmed were present in the meeting apart from Sarpanchs from all 39 panchayats of Kathua block.
The DC dwelled on the redefined role of panchayats in planning and development process and called upon them for positive contribution for which line departments have been directed to assist the panchayats. He informed that Tehsildars and BDOs have been directed to hold monthly meetings with 14 line departments for which panchayats should come up with specific development plans and agenda of the meeting should be formulated for which monthly targets will be set up for each sarpanch.
Grievances of various panchayats related to Rural Development Power, PHE, Rural Development, BRO, PWD, Social Welfare and other sectors were also discussed. Assistant Commissioner Development was directed to ensure that Panchayat Secretaries and Gram Rozgar Sewaks engaged to assist panchayats work in letter and spirit to strengthen the PRIs. He also assured the PRIs for early redressal of their grievances for which issues will be immediately flagged to the concerned departments.
The DC directed all the sarpanchs to formulate charter of demands in respect of each panchayat and raise the issue during grievance redressal camps and meetings. He called upon them to act as an interface between public and administration.
President of the Panchayat Committee of Kathua Block thanked the Deputy Commissioner for launching a new initiative to empower and strengthen panchayats by way of their capacity building and involvement in planning and development process.
The meeting also discussed the status of construction of panchayat ghar, IAY, MGNREGA, IHHL, NBA and other sectors for which performance of each panchayat is being monitored at district level. BDO was directed to immediately expedite the CDF works.
