DC reviews Eid-ul-Uzha arrangements in Shopian

Shopian: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shopian Dr. Owais Ahmed on Tuesday reviewed the arrangements made for the forthcoming festival of Eid-ul-Uzha in the district.

Additional District Development Commissioner, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Chief Planning Officer, Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Sub Divisional Magistrate Zainapora, Executive Engineers from R&B, PHE, PDD, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer, Chief Medical Officer, District Sheep Husbandry Officer, districts food safety officer, Assistant Regional Transport Officer, and other concerned officers were present in the meeting.

On the occasion, the DC directed the FCS&CA to ensure the availability of Rice, Atta, Cooking gas, Kerosene oil at government depots and also ensure strict implementation of government approval rate list besides the hassle-free home delivery of cooking gas supply to the consumers. He directed concerned to intensify market checking to keep a check on profiteering, hoarding and overcharging by shopkeepers across the district. He said that erring vendors, shopkeepers and traders should be booked for violating the rate list. He also stressed to ensure that all shopkeepers display government approved rate list in their shops.

DC also exhorted upon the Municipal Committee authorities to provide better sanitation arrangements around the shrines, mosques and Eidgah besides installation and replacement of street lights in the town and other important religious places where the big congregation are expected.

He also directed the executive engineers, PHE and PDD to sensitize their ground level staff to ensure that hassle-free water and electricity supply is provided to the consumers.

Directions were also given to District Sheep Husbandry officer for setting up of Mandi at places throughout the district and to ensure premortem checking of all animal being sold for sacrifice so as to ensure that no diseased animal is being sold in the market. Besides, the Chief Animal Husbandry officer and AD fisheries were also directed to install stalls and continue with market checking.

The DC further directed the ARTO to ensure a hassle-free plying of public transport for the commuters especially on the day of Eid.

Taking a serious note on incidents of RTA during the festival period, the Deputy Commissioner directed the Traffic police to ensure that strict regulations are kept in place to check rash driving and riding of two-wheelers without a helmet.
