DDC Chairs District Level Conference on NEP

UDHAMPUR, NOVEMBER 09- District Development Commissioner, Udhampur, Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, chaired a meeting of District Level Coordination Conference on National Education Policy formulation. The district level conference marked the culmination of month long three-tier process of consultation from village level, block level to District level. The one-day conference received suggestions from all stakeholders.

Educationists, academicians, Government officials, retired public servants, Sahetya Academy Award winners, poets, sarpanchs, panchs, lawyers, students and parents, head of Government and private educational institutions, sportsmen, media persons, businessmen, workers, engineers and professionals from various fields attended the consultation conference.

The DDC outlined targets for various consultation groups constituted for 22 themes of Higher Education and School Education for the day long exercise. He briefed the groups about their role in initiating discussions, receiving suggestions from stakeholders, review on suggestions received from Village and Block level committees and formulation of draft on each of the themes. He laid stress on effective participation of all stakeholders especially women.

Earlier, Dr Jagdish Mehra PO, DRDA and Coordinator initiated the proceedings and briefed about the composition of groups on various themes, consultation process and formulation of draft document on National Education Policy.

Principal GDC Udhampur, Prof S S Bhalwal elaborated on the topics of higher education, role of educationists, feedback received during block level consultations organised in coordination with BDOs. He briefed the conference about the suggestions received on higher education.

Chief Education Officer, Bishan Singh presented a resume of suggestions received from 364 village education committees and 2014 panchayats. He briefed the conference about overall suggestions of stakeholders in different regions of district.

Later, 12 groups constituted for National Education Policy carried out a day-long process for seeking consultations and suggestions for formulation of draft on each of the themes. Officers of Education, Higher Education, Revenue, Rural Development, Social Welfare, Prominent citizens also attended the conference. A draft document was prepared on the themes notified by the Ministry of Human Resource Development.
