DDC Kathua visits landslide hit areas in Ramkot, Billawar

KATHUA, AUGUST 26- District Development Commissioner Kathua, Ramesh Kumar today visited the landslide hit village Mohra Chhuara of Panchayat Uchha Pind and  Morha Kalana of panchyat Dhannuparole in Tehsil Ramkot  and in Tehsil Billawar.

During the visit, DDC took stock of damage caused and also interacted with the affected families which were shifted to safer places in relief camps in Pongran. DDC also had first hand appraisal of facilities being provided in relief camps to the affected families.

SDM Billawar briefed the DDC that  the relief material has been provided to the affected families in the makeshift relief camp where provision of food, drinking water and toilets have been put in place. He also informed DDC that 19 children of affected families were adjusted in primary school Pongran and 21 children were shifted to Middle school Bhaddu where these children will continue their school classes, adding that free books have also been distributed among these children.

DDC also  visited Dhannu Parole panchayat where he was briefed about the present  situation.


Pertinent to mention here that the district administration proactively shifted people from the landslide prone areas to safer places on Tuesday immediately after the reports of landslide activity in the area. SDM informed DDC that Government Primary School Dhannu-Parole which is in High Risk Landslide prone area is shifted and  is running from make shift school.

DDC Kathua while speaking on the occasion  gave directions to officers of PHE and PDD to maintain proper supply of water and electricity in relief camps. PHE department were directed to provide safe and chlorinated water whereas TSO was directed to provide ration in these relief camps. Health Department was given directions to organize  medical camps for the regular checkup of dislocated families. Directions were also passed to Tehsildar Billawar to provide tents to the remaining families in Dhannu-parole.

Later DDC also visited Sub-District Hospital Billawar where he took stock of the facilities and interacted with patients and attendants. The DDC passed directions  to the hospital authorities to maintain hygiene and cleanliness in the hospital, besides maintaining a proper duty roaster of doctors and other support staff.

SDM Billawar R.S Charak, ACD Kathua, DFO Billawar, Tehsildar Ramkot, Tehsildar Billawar, and other sub-division level officers accompanied the DDC.
