RAJOURI, MAY 24: District Magistrate Rajouri Dr Shahid Chowdhary today complimented the police force for prompt action against youth involved in drug peddling in Rajouri and its vicinity.
Dr Shahid directed the executive magistrates to initiate stern and prompt action on drug peddling reports received from police.
Pertinently based on recommendation of District Police Rajouri, 23 drug peddlers have been booked under various sections of CrPC and sent to District Jail, the meeting was informed.
Earlier, the District Magistrate convened a meeting of Chief Medical Officer, Principals of Govt Degree Colleges, Block Medical Officers, Chief Education Officer, ZEOs, and various doctors to discuss medicines being used as psychotropic substances in higher doses and keeping a close tab on these drugs.
Dr Shahid also discussed the arrangements for establishment of a drug de-addiction centre in district hospital Rajouri for rehabilitation of drug addicts. Principals of GDCs Rajouri, Thanamandi, Budhal and Nowshera outlined the measures for initiating a mass movement of students against drug abuse.
The meeting was informed that District Police has already started a high level crackdown on drug peddlers and more arrests are expected in near future.
Meanwhile habitual offenders in drug peddling with a number of FIRs registered against them are being booked under PSA.
It is pertinent to mention that in a meeting of prominent citizens earlier this week with District administration had expressed serious concern about drug menace.
District Magistrate and Sr Superintendent of Police, during the meeting had presented a road map for making Rajouri-drug free and had called for greater public cooperation and coordination.
