Defence Minister on a two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir

On a two day visit to Jammu and Kashmir, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar will arrive tomorrow to review the security situation in the state. Defence spokesman Colonel S D Goswami informed that the Defence Minister will be accompanied by Army Chief General Dalbir Singh Suhag and General Officer Commanding-in Chief of Northern Command Lt Gen D S Hooda during the two day visit which will cover all three regions of the state.

Parrikar will arrive in Leh tomorrow morning where he will be briefed about the situation along the Line of Control on Pakistani side and Line of Actual Control along the Chinese side, by Lt Gen V S Negi, General Officer Commanding of 14 corps.


Col Goswami further added that Parrikar will fly to Srinagar after that, to hold meetings with the Governor N N Vohra and Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.

In addition to these meetings, the Minister will also be briefed on the security situation in the valley and along the Line of Control, by GoC 15 Corps Lt Gen Subrata Saha. After his overnight stay in Srinagar, the Minister is scheduled to fly to Jammu where GoC 16 Corps Lt Gen K H singh will brief him on the security scenario. The Minister will then visit some forward posts in Poonch sector in Jammu.

This will be Parrikar’s second visit to Jammu and Kashmir since he has taken charge of the ministry in November last year.
