Jammu, Sept 23: With the incessant and heavy rains again wracking havoc in the Chenab Valley region, the passengers on the National Highway 244 were again at the receiving end due to road blockage. Stranded passengers faced hardships due to road closure and non availability of basic amenities. To provide succour to the aggrieved passengers, Rashtriya Rifles Battalion under Delta Force mobilised resources to provide meals and other allied facilities on the spot. Approximate 350 passengers were provided meals, drinking water and emergency medical aid. Amongst the distressed were ladies, children and senior citizens. The prompt response and goodwill gesture was appreciated by the locals and the stranded passengers. The entire relief was orchestrated by Khellani based company under the stewardship company Commander.
This relief was synchronous with the policy of Army to be the first responders in a natural calamity to assist the Awaam in every possible manner. Army has always been at the forefront to assist civil administration in coherently responding to a natural calamity situation by fielding its troops and equipment. In the past also Delta Force carried out unprecedented relief operations during floods in Kashmir Valley and earthquake in Doda district.
