DEO convenes meeting with representatives of political parties
JAMMU: District Election Officer (DEO) Jammu, Ajeet Kumar Sahu today convened a meeting with the representatives of various political parties to discuss issues related to Assembly Election-2014.
ACG Shenaz Choudhary, ADC Jammu Neeraj Kumar, Secretary JMC, Naresh Kumar, Joint Commissioner JMC, Kapil Sharma, officers and representatives of political parties attended the meeting.
The Chair apprised that the summary revision of electoral rolls will start from 17th of July and special camp days with booth level officers with be held on 3rd and 9th August for receiving claims and objections. He said that training programmes for the BLOs have been conducted and they have been sensitized to provide the requisite assistance to the general public.
He informed that the qualifying date for inclusion of names of new voters in the voter list would be 1st October 2014 and any permanent resident of J&K who attains the age of 19 years on or before 1st October 2014 shall be eligible to be included in the voter list.
He asked the representatives of the political parties to sensitize and encourage the young eligible voters to get themselves registered and ensure participation for strengthening the democracy.
It was further apprised that Form 6, 7, 8 and 8A can be obtained from concerned Booth Level Officer or can be downloaded from the website www.ceojk.nic.in.
DEO informed that general public can also check their status, information about BLO and polling stations and any other information by sending a SMS on the phone number 9211728083 and any information related to the elections can be sought on phone No 1950 and 1077.
The representatives were informed that 67 new polling stations have been created . DEO asked the political parties to sensitize and make the general public aware about the process of summary revision to ensure massive participation in the electoral process.
The participants appreciated the efforts made by the district administration for streamlining the entire process and giving an impetus to the voter participation in the electoral process.
DEO appealed the general public to check their names in the voter lists as having an EPIC will not suffice the eligibility to be vote.
