With J&K Governor NN Vohra asking both PDP, and BJP to clear their stand on government formation in the state, the pressure is now on PDP, and BJP to act fast. Sources however said that PDP led by Mehbooba Mufti will harden it’s stand on ‘Agenda of Alliance’, and it unlikely to continue the coalition unless it gets concrete assurances from the BJP.
Another indicator of PDP’s reluctance to form the government is that the recent meeting of party legislators did not elect legislative party leader which has ensured the suspense over government formation in the state. The PDP legislators, sources said also told Mehbooba that they were ready for fresh polls but were also not against forming a coalition with BJP.
During the key party meeting, PDP chief told the party MLAs about her thoughts on the Agenda of Alliance, and what was expected from the BJP. She however said that no fresh conditions had been imposed, and PDP was asking the party to fulfill the agenda in a time bound manner.
The PDP leader also said that BJP was not sensitive about issues, and agenda which were critical to the agenda of alliance.
Both the parties are now going to meet the state governor today and explain him about their plans to form the government. However, given the indications it seems that political uncertainty in Jammu and Kashmir is going to continue.
PDP, BJP to meet J&K governor over government formation
The PDP and the BJP witnessed hectic political activity here on Tuesday ahead of their presidents meeting with Governor N.N. Vohra later in the day over government formation in Jammu and Kashmir.
In two separate letters, Vohra asked Peoples Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti and Satpal Sharma, the president of the state unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party, to clearly state their stands on government formation.
Mehbooba is scheduled to meet the governor at 4.30 p.m., while BJP leaders will call on him at 6.30 p.m. at the Raj Bhawan here.
Before meeting the governor, Mehbooba Mufti is likely to meet BJP leader and former state deputy chief minister Nirmal Singh.
Sources in the PDP told Media Sources that Mehbooba Mufti is expected to convey to the BJP leader her strong reservations about heading the PDP-BJP alliance government in the state.
State BJP leaders called on national general secretary of the party, Ram Madhav in New Delhi on Monday to discuss the party calibration in light of PDP seeking fresh assurances.
Top BJP sources said the party high command would not respond to PDP demands as the party stands committed to already agreed terms of alliance between the two parties.
“They have not even elected a leader of their legislature party so far. Let them spell out their views. We are not the ones to ditch alliances,” said a BJP leader here.
