Jammu, August 26: Revenue department has decided to stick to the eligibilty of knowledge of Urdu Language in the test for the post of Naib Tehsildar even after the protest by the aspirants.
As per the protestors, Jammu and Kashmir Service Selection Board (JKSSB) advertised 134 posts of naib tehsildar in the Revenue Department on April 7. The departments keeps the minimum qualification for the test is graduate with knowledge of Urdu which it declared in a notice issued on July 31. More than 1 lakh candidates have filled their application for the test and almost half of them hails from Jammu and nearby who did not have good Urdu knowledge.
Jammu-based student bodies and aspirants protest against the notification that the test of 160 marks would include a descriptive Urdu section of 30 marks. They pleaded that there is no section on Urdu in KAS, sub-inspector and tehsildar tests.
But according to Mohammad Afzal Bhat, Commissioner Secretary in Revenue Department, despite protest, there is going to be no change in the rules. Candidates have to go through a descriptive Urdu test.
He argued that the The entire data of the department is in Urdu. Naib tehsildars cannot work without having comprehensive knowledge of Urdu which is different in case of Tehsildars and KAS officers who do not have to deal with revenue record directly. They can do their work in English as well.
