Details emerge in the Kathua Murder case

Kathua, June 30: In a case similar to one in 2015, a dead body of a woman forced into a trunk was recovered after it was found floating in Ravi canal in village Pathwal yesterday.

A villager saw the box floating in the canal, and informed Hiranagar police station, who rushed a team to the spot, fished the box out of the canal and took it into custody.

The box consisted of a dead body of a girl whose age appears to be between 17 to 20 years of age.

According to initial investigation by the police, the girl could be from Abhanka Village of Dinanagar Tehsil of Pathankot District of Punjab. The police recovered a jute carry bag along with the body which had the name of the village printed on it.

The girl had been strangulated and then forced into the trunk and as is visible in the picture, the neck had been force twisted to accommodate the body in the trunk.

The body of the girl was later sent to mortuary of GMC Jammu for identification which by far has not been possible. A case under Section 302 RPC was registered in Hiranagar Police Station in this regard under FIR number 77 and the Hiranagar Police is investigating it.

Towards the end of the year 2015 as well, a dead body of a woman was recovered from Gurah Baloo falling under Hiranagar Police Station. It was a case of murder as is this one and her body was thrown in the village pond. So far no arrest has been made in the 2015 case either.
