DG Youth Services and Sports inaugurates football tournament

KATHUA: To encourage sports talent among the students, the Department of Youth Services and Sports today organised Inter District State Level Football Tournament (under 14 boys) here today at sports stadium Kathua.
Director General Youth Services and Sports J&K, Navin Aggarwal, inaugurated the event and declared the tournament open.
As many as eleven teams from different district of the state are participating in the tournament, the opening match of which was was held between Kupwara and Pulwama districts.
Speaking on the occasion, DG, Youth Services and Sports Naveen Aggarwal said that the motto behind organising such events is to explore the hidden sports talent among the students besides providing right platform to nurture it. He said the sports help to channelize the energy of the youth in true spirit as these help to imbibe tolerance, team work and coordination.
The 4 day football tournament will culminate on 29th May 2014.
Earlier a pledge ceremony was held wherein participating players took oath to observe true spirit of sportsmanship and discipline.
District Youth Services and Sports Officer Kathua Sunil Kumar in his welcome address appealed the students to adopt sports as a part of life to stay healthy.
A cultural programme was also held in which action songs were presented by the students of different schools.
Among others, SSP Kathua Mohan Lal, Principal Police Training School Kathua were also present on the occasion.
