Jammu, December 21: Even after the administration has foiled a number of attempts and issued warnings a number of times, the land mafia have targeted huge area near the site identified for the establishment of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Nagrota tehsil of Jammu district.
As per a Daily Excelsior report, the police has stopped all the activities going on in several Khasra Numbers and lodged an FIR as well but this hasn’t stopped the mafia from encroaching upon the land. The sources suggest that the direct involvement of police as well as Revenue officials has also been established during the discreet inquiry in this particular case.
“Ever since the land has been identified in Jagti area of Nagrota tehsil for establishment of IIT, repeated attempts have been made by the land mafia to encroach upon the State land. They have used well knit nexus with certain police officers and functionaries of the Revenue Department for the purpose,” said the sources.
But thankfully, the administration received inputs from certain quarters and , the Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Simrandeep Singh started discreet enquiry to bring facts to the fore before the mafia could succeed.
On fearing of strict action to be taken against him, the Revenue Department officer(s) of Nagrota Tehsil suddenly changed their stance. Earlier they were acting as a mute spectator to these illegal activities. Reportedly, now they have started extending help to the Deputy Commissioner in the discreet enquiry.
The investigation has established, “The land mafia was hell bent to encroach upon the land, whose cost has escalated following identification of land for setting up of Indian Institute of Technology.” It added that the Aks-Latha Massavi (revenue map) of the entire area has been lost and the mafia is trying to obtain advantage of the same with the help of Police and Revenue officials.
However, the DC Jammu, Simrandeep Singh has issued directions for stopping all sorts of activities on several Khasra Numbers in the area and is also closely examining the Fards issued by the Revenue officials in the recent past and on completion of this exercise many heads are likely to roll for facilitating the mafia in encroaching upon the land.
An FIR has also been registered at Nagrota Police Station bearing number 298 against one Vishwa Nath, son of Isher Dass and other land grabbers alleged of being involved in encroachment activities here and in other parts of Jammu as well .
Moreover, some officers of the Police Department are also likely to face action for either facilitating the encroachment or remaining mute spectator to the illegal activities of the mafia, the sources added
