UDHAMPUR : In view of three-day Baisakhi Mela, a mock drill was organised today by District Administration Udhampur in association with Civil defence, SDRF here at Devika Ghat .
District Development Commissioner, Udhampur Dr. Piyush Singla was Chief Guest. Additional Deputy Commissioner, Gurvinderjeet Singh, GM DIC, Suram Chand Sharma- the chairman of Baisakhi Mela Committee, Chief Executive Officer Municipality, Santosh Kotwal, Mela Officer, Udhampur Mohit Gupta, Inspector SDRF, Chetan Charak, Secretary District Red Cross Society Udhampur, Dr. V.P Sharma besides other officers of Civil Administration and police were present at the mock drill.
The trainers of Civil defence demonstrated rescue operations which include shifting of people during emergency.
The DDC said that the main objective of organizing the mock exercise is to generate awareness among the common masses about tackling of untoward incidents.
He said that trained and equipped Civil Defence volunteers could prove instrumental in handling the situation effectively. He emphasized upon the officers and rescue operation teams to make coordinated efforts for successful conduct of the mela.
Later, DDC also visited the mela site and took stock of the arrangements for drinking water, power supply, barricading, First-aid, sanitation, checking of rates etc.
