GANDERBAL, OCTOBER 08: Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Asghar Samoon, accompanied by Secretary Tourism, Farooq Ahmad Shah and District Development Commissioner, Ganderbal, Showkat Aijaz Bhat today launched Sanitation Week at Manasbal. The week long sanitation programme being organized by Wullar Manasbal Development Authority took off when Div Com and other officers present on the occasion started cleaning the road with brooms in their hands.
Speaking on the occasion the Divisional Commissioner said that the week long sanitation drive is being carried across the state and the main focus of the campaign will be to clean and preserve heritage sites and water bodies in addition to the surroundings. He further added that plans are being made to look at the most appropriate mechanisms to protect our Water Source Areas as well as our heritage sites in the future as well.
“Although we acknowledge the vital role nature plays in delivering our water, we must not lose sight of the social challenges that our people face and these are often magnified through water and sanitation issues across the state. It is for this reason that we have started sanitation campaign on the directions of honorable Chief Minister,” Div Com said.
Speaking on the occasion Secretary Tourism, Farooq Ahmad Shah said that we need to work together when most of our resources are untapped and ensure that we work with what we have to improve the lives of people. He said that every individual should understand the importance of having hygienic surroundings. He further said that Tourism Department will be developing infrastructure for water sports in Mansbal Lake in near future.
District Development Commissioner, Ganderbal, Showkat Aijaz Bhat said that water and sanitation will always be everyone’s business and campaigns like this highlight the importance of Government as well as Community to protect our water sources and address our sanitation challenges.
CEO Wullar Mansbal Development Authority informed the Div Com that the recreation park on the bank of Mansbal Lake has generated the revenue of Rs. 1175000 this year.
The event was attended by the school children, all district officers of district Ganderbal, officials of Wullar Mansbal Development Authority and a large number of people.
