Restriction on the entry of women into the temple is backed by the belief or superstition that if a woman visits Kartikeya temple, she will remain a widow for seven lives. According to the priest of the temple, Mahant Sitaram Giri the story goes like that one day Karthikeya got angry due to his mother( Parvati ) andconsigned  his flesh and blood to flames following which he was allowed to go to the shrine of Pehowa by Lord Shiva. Then the saints applied warm mustard oil on Karthikeya’s body and after that he was enthroned on this place. Since then the  tradition of offering mustard oil at this place is followed.
