Srinagar, July 4: With the state government saying that the benefits of 7th Pay Commission will be given to state employees only after two years due to financial crunch, the Youth National Conference here has questioned the recent major hike in salary of legislators.
Youth National Conference president of the Jammu province, Ajaz Jan, claimed that the statement of Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufi on Saturday saying the benefits could be given only after two years was a confusing one.He said that while the state government was citing financial crunch, only a few days earlier it had announced a hike in the salary of legislators.
“If there is financial crunch, then why did the government give a hike in salary to legislators,” Jan said.“Either stick to present statement and roll back the hike in the salary or give the benefit of 7th Pay Commission to state employees at the earliest,” he added.
“Employees are the backbone of the government and they are the real functionaries at the grassroot level. Providing them basic benefits, including of pay commission, should be a priority of the government rather than the salary of legislators,” Jan said.
