Dr. Batra from Jammu is the new president of International Hockey federation
JAMMU, Nov 12: Narendra Batra was today elected as President of International Hockey Federation (FIH), tghe body that controls the Hockey in the world.
Narinder Batra, from Jammu has become th first asian to head the International hickey federation (FIH), the world body of hockey. He is also the chairman of hockey India league.
National Sports federation chief, Dr. Batra is the Managing Director of Batra Group which is an Indian multi-dimensional conglomerate company having its operations in seven business sectors including Healthcare, Automobiles, Renewable Energy, Transportation & Logistics, Education, Garments Export and Oil & Gas.
Hockey India president, Narinder Batra defeated Ken Read of Australia and Ireland’s David Balbirnie to become the 12th FIH President. With this win, Batra has become the first Asian to head such a post in the 92-year-old history this world hockey body.
“I feel extremely honoured and I look forward to lead the FIH global hockey revolution,”, he said after his staggering win at the elections.
“My commitment is to hockey because I love the sport. I want to take hockey across the globe because now-a-days everything is calculated by reach and revenue. My priority will be to widen the base and extend geographical boundaries.
“To achieve that we can’t restrict hockey to just 10-12 nations. Hockey has to spread, hockey has to grow across the globe,” Batra said.
Batra, who became president of Hockey India in October 2014 after serving as its secretary, succeeds Spaniard Leandro Negre, who has been the FIH chief since 2008.
