DSE Srinagar proposes board examinations for class 11th
Srinagar, December 09: A proposal has been moved by the Director of School Education, Kashmir regarding converting class 11th examination in schools on the pattern of Class XII.
As per the proposal , the Directorate has decided to introduce board examination for Class XI students of the Valley from the new session with a view to bring seriousness in the conduct of examinations. An official source has informed that the deliberation has been made and final decision will be made by the Directorate of School Education very shortly.
” Discussions were on in the department from several weeks to handover the exams to the board completely so that students start taking the class seriously, ” said this official.
Presently, the question paper for class 11th final examination is framed by the Board of School Education but the examination held in their respective school only. The school checks the paper and declare the result.
In view of Director, School Education, Shah Faesal, “Class XI has become like a damper. It spoils children and they forget everything they had learnt till Class X. ”
He added that taking class 11th non seriously affects student’s performance in all the competitive exams as it requires aptitude in Class XI syllabus. Acceptance of proposal moved through Directorate by government will change the traditional pattern of Class XI exams from the upcoming session.
The proposal is welcomed even by the teachers working in state education department. “There is an understanding that our students do not take Class XI seriously and it affects their performance in Class XII and affects their future prospectus,” said one government teacher.
She added, “Students must give utmost importance to Class XI syllabus and study during the ensuing winter months.”
Pertinently, the Department of Education is taking many new steps to reform the system which many people believe was outdated and traditional.
People running coaching centres in the valley have welcomed the proposal and demanded a revision of the class 11th syllabus also.
“We welcome the step of the Education Department to change the pattern of Class XI exams, but there is a need to revise the syllabus,” said chairman of Coaching Centres Association GN Var.
