Election Talk PHASE 4: 10% in the first two hours

The first two hours of polling recorded meagre 10 percent of voter turnout in 18 seats, scheduled under Phase 4 today. “The  overall polling percentage till 10 AM for the 16 constituencies of the valley is around 10 per cent, while over 13 per cent electorate exercised their franchise in Samba and Vijaypur constituencies of Jammu region,” an official told.

While Samba recorded a turn out of 13.56 per cent, Vijaypur observed even lower- 12.71 per cent. Despite acute cold in the areas, people were seen going towards the polling booths and long queues of voters were witnessed outside the polling booths, told the official.
Sonawar, where Chief Minister is contesting for NC, observed the highest 9.24 turn out during the first two hours while Khanyar, with the least number of electoral, recorded 8.13 per cent turnout.

The rest of the constituencies under Srinagar District- Zadibal, Amirakadal, Eidgah and Hazratbal witnessed slightly over 7 per cent polling, while Batamaloo and Habbakadal constituencies of the city saw even lower-6.24 per cent and 4.73 per cent turnout till 10 AM.
Anantnag constituency in South Kashmir, with JKPDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed plunging in the fray, saw 7.90 per cent of the electorate cast their votes.
Pahalgam and Shangus on the other hand recorded a brisk polling- 14.91 per cent and 14. 93 per cent respectively while Shopian and Wachi saw a turn out of 10.68 per cent and 8.43 per cent respectively.
