SRINAGAR: Greeting people on the International Day of the Girl Child, Governor N N Vohra on Tuesday appealed to people to ensure a world free of discrimination against women.

However, the day is being observed at a time when women in the Kashmir valley are under the grip of severe fear following increase in the braid chopping incidents as police has so far failed to make any breakthrough despite announcing several measures.

In a message here, Mr Vohra appealed to people of the State to join the initiatives which are being taken Internationally to ensure a world free of discrimination against women and effectively oppose any attempt to subvert women and young girls against any kind of disadvantage or discrimination.
