Even though the BJP has given an ultimatum to PDP to take a call on the coalition and end the stalemate prevailing in Jammu and Kashmir, the Mehbooba Mufti led Kashmir based party is busy finalizing the confidence building measures which the party wants to set as a pre-condition for coalition. The PDP wants assurance from the top BJP brass about the implementation of the Agenda of Alliance. In comparison the BJP has not formed any proposals or demands which the party seeks to obtain from the coalition partner.
BJP has even sent feelers to PDP seeking details about the Confidence Building Measures, which are to be taken up central government. A core PDP group has been assigned the task of building demand around core CBMs and it includes Muzzafar Hussain Beigh, Naeem Akhtar, and Nizam Ud Din Bhat while Mehbooba heads it.
RSS leader Ram Madhav is scheduled to meet Mehbooba in the coming days to discuss government formation but it is unlikely that BJP would be ready to accept all the demands being put forth by PDP. The BJP is ready to support the agenda of alliance but sources said party might find it difficult to accept the new demands being put forth by it’s coalition partner.
Major demands being put by PDP include immediate return of power projects, revocation of AFSPA, package for flood hit people, jobs for unemployed youth essentially Kashmiris. It remains to be seen whether these demands would be considered by BJP high command or no but one thing is clear that BJP has been put on the mat by PDP, which has proved astute in it’s dealing with the saffron party.
