PDP emerged as genuine, credible voice of all regions of J&K: Mufti
Jammu: Terming Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as a movement to establish a new system of justice and equality, patron of PDP Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today said his party has emerged as genuine, and credible voice of the people of Jammu and Kashmir through its convictions and visionary policies.
Addressing a function to welcome veteran Congress leader and former Deputy Chief Minister, Mangat Ram Sharma who joined PDP along with his elder son Subash Sharma, Mufti said that it was matter of satisfaction that PDP, in a short span of time, has emerged as strong political force in the state as well as a credible voice of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
He expressed satisfaction that PDP’s agenda of the peace and development was now seen positively not just in Kashmir valley but in Jammu and Ladakh regions, as well where also it was welcomed as a serious statewide political force with credibility and established credentials in governance and political acumen.
Mufti said that joining a political stalwart like Pandit Mangat Ram Sharma was a clear indication said that after Kashmir Valley, people of Jammu and Ladakh were also treating PDP as their real voice because leadership of this party has earned credibility of people by its convictions and commitments.
“Though PDP has originated as an idea for restoration of dignity of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, the party has with inputs from various sections of opinion has evolved an agenda that it believes could lead to get the state and the region rid from decades of strife, bring a sense of achievement to its people and usher in a new era of sustainable peace and prosperity”, he said and added that overwhelming response to party from all regions of the State was a clear indication that people of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh were looking towards PDP as only credible political force of the State.
“The formation of the PDP in the year 1999 was a turning point in the history of Jammu and Kashmir. In a short span of time, PDP has earned credibility of the state’s people. The party has emerged as the biggest political force of the state”, Mufti said and added that it was a historical fact that it was the PDP that revived the people’s confidence of in democratic institutions.
Terming joining of Mangat Ram Sharma as big boost for the party, Mufti said that he has long association with Mangat Ram Sharma. “We were colleagues in the government of Mir Qasim and we worked in the previous PDP-Congress government”, he said and hoped that with his joining PDP would be further strengthened in the State.
Sr Leader S Rangil Singh, Ved Mahajan, Ch Hamid, Asrhad Malik, Guru Prasad, S Surender Singh, Vinod Gupta, Rajeev gupta, Devender Chalotra and others were present on the occasion.
