SRINAGAR: Former Chief Ministers Dr Farooq Abdullah, his son Omar Abdullah led National Conference (NC) party to pay glowing tributes to Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, founder of NC on his birth anniversary here on Wednesday.
A “ Fateha Khawani” was organized at the Mazar(grave yard) of Sheikh Abdullah on the bank of Dal Lake at Hazratbal.
Dr Abdullah and Omar Abdullah were among large number of NC leaders, including former ministers, to pay floral tributes to Sheikh, also a former Chief Minister.
Meanwhile, Governor Satya Pal Malik also paid tributes to Sheikh and recalled his services to people of the Jammu and Kashmir.
The state secretary of CPI(M) Ghulam Nabi Malik on Wednesday paid glowing tributes to Sheikh Abdullah on his birth anniversary.
He said late Sheikh was a great political legendry who along with other stalwarts led historic freedom movement known as “Quit Kashmir” against the autocratic rule.
He strived for reshaping the political set up in the state, besides initiating measures for socio-economic transformation of poor and the downtrodden.
Convening of Constituent Assembly and adopting constitution for J&K State are the achievements which have contributed in shaping our future. Abolition of feudal rule enabled our poor peasants to get freedom from the clutches of landlords and sahokaars.
Adoption of a visionary, progressive document known as Naya Kashmir remains beacon light for the whole society and his contribution in reshaping and strengthening democratic polity can never be forgotten.
Despite differences and disagreements, fact remains that his contribution in different spheres of life are unparalleled.
Similar functions to pay tributes to Sheikh were also organized at district headquarters in the valley.
