FIR against Srinagar Editor, correspondent for running fake story

Srinagar, August 31: Handwara Police has lodged a First Investigation Report (FIR) against API correspondent for Handwara Murtaza Ahmed and Editor Mehrajuddin Wani of a Srinagar news news paper.

According to our sources, the FIR was lodged in order to prevent the unchecked spread of fake news strings, which further promote rumour mongering, something that can prove damaging in a sensitive environment as that in current times in Kashmir Valley.

Notably, a news item had appeared in a Srinagar daily in its 30th August print that a Convoy of Army 30RR was stopped by some youngsters at Qalamabad in Handwara. The youth then managed to pressurize all the security personnel in the convoy to raise slogans in favour of Aazadi.

SDPO Handwara, Shabbit Khan, confirmed the registering of FIR against the two scribes and said, “We received a communication from Army that a fake news was published in ‘Srinagar News’ news paper and upon verification of the same an FIR has been lodged against Mehrajuddin Wani, Editor of newspaper and Murtaza Ahmed, API correspondent for Handwara. The matter is under investigation.”
