Jammu: A traditional week long annual fair (Mela) organized at Swankha every year in Month of June-July especially on first Sunday which falls after full moon for last many decades attracts people from all walks of life commenced today at Baba Sidh Goria Ji Mela, Suankhe, Vijaypur, Jammu.
People also take a customary dip in the above pond, which is believed to have curative powers and then offer prayers at the temple. During the week long festivity a huge market comes up at the site of the fair, shops and stalls selling food items and all sorts of wares are set up. Entertainment and rural sports like dangal (wrestling) also form an important feature of the fair.
Baba Goria Nath, a follower of renowned legendary saint Guru Gorakh Nath took salvation while bathing in the pond at the place where the Devasthal stands. Since then it is believed that the water of the holy sarovar(pond) have mystic powers.
