Kargil freezes at minus 21, Valley shivers

Kargil: Five persons including two Soldiers were died due avalanches at two places in Drass sector.

In Drass two armymen, of 82 field regiment died after avalanche hit Batra camp 6 Km away from Drass city towards Zojjila in Kargil district.

Meanwhile According to sources, three Nepalese out of four, working at a head work of Irrigation Canal in the mountain four Km away from Kaksar were buried under a huge avalanche and are supposed to be dead.


After two days heavy snowfall, weather was clear today, earlier yesterday due to Avalanches at many places the whole Suru River was blocked and due to which Chutuk and Iqbal Hydel Project were out of function, which kept the whole Kargil district without electricity for 36 hours.

Due the heavy snowfall Kargil Drass, Kargil Sankoo, and Kargil Batalik roads remained close for vehicular traffic and with the improvement in the weather condition Municipal Committee, Mechanical department and Project Vijayak of BRO are seen active in the Clearance of Snow from the roads.

According to an order Sub Divisional Magistrate Zanskar, advised the people to restrict travelling through Chadder route as its dangerous to trek through this route due to increase in the temperature.

Deputy Commissioner Kargil Mohd Sadiq Sheikh, has ordered to close the school from 10th to 14th of march 2014 keeping in view the heavy snowfall in all over Kargil district.
