Kupwara, Oct 05: Four army personnel died on Monday in an encounter with militants in north Kashmir’s Handwara area, police said.
An official said that the encounter is still raging in Hafruda forests of the north Kashmir.
“The body of the missing soldier was found amid bushes following massive searches carried in the area by army’s 6 RR along with reinforcement from special para commandos who were rushed to the area after fierce gunbattle”, he said.
Army’s 6 RR had launched massive searches following inputs about the movement of some militants in the area since last two days.
Late last evening, after conducting searches in the vast area, the forces intercepted a group of militants in dense bushes at Tilpatren forest area, some 7 KMs from Hafruda forests, sources said.
After being intercepted, the group was engaged in a gunfight by the forces, they said.
In the fierce gunfight, three army men were killed and another was reported missing in the area, they said.
Another encounter between militants and forces is also underway in the Krusan area of the state.
One militant has been killed and an AK-47 recovered from him.
