Srinagar: Western disturbances that led to continuous and heavy rainfall and snowfall in upper reaches of Jammu and Kashmir valley covered the tourist resort of Doodhpatri in a blanket of fresh snow as can be seen in these images.
It was back in Omar Abdullah’s time in 2011, when the proposal to bring Doodhpatri on the tourism map of Jammu and Kashmir was forwarded. Doodhpatri is considered by the locals to be more beautiful than the world famous Gulmarg resort in Baramulla.
Doodhpatri is about 55 kilometres away from Srinagar city andfalls in the Budgam district. Since 2011, there has been no development in and around the tourist resort. There is no road for kilometres leading upto the resort and there are no shops for refreshment or huts to spend the night in.
Locals, however, maintain that it is because Doodhpatri resort is largely non-commercialized, that its beauty has not been harmed.
