Functioning of SH deptt reviewed
JAMMU: To take stock of the functioning of Sheep Husbandry Department with respect to the field and farms of the Department and also of the losses of sheep and goats that occurred during the recent floods, the Director Sheep Husbandry Department Jammu, Dr. Sant Ram convened and officers meet here today.
With a special focus on the details of losses in livestock and losses to the government assets during recent flash floods, the meeting discussed pace of the progress of various Centrally Sponsored and State Sector Schemes of Sheep Husbandry Sector viz RKVY, NMPS, IDSRR, ASCAD, ATMA, ESVHD, RIDF etc.
It was apprised that by the end of September this year, the mutton and wool production in Jammu province was recorded as 99.434 lac kg and 25.959 lac kg respectively. Further, 23.373 lac dosings, 10.641 lac dippings and 3.878 vaccinations were administered to sheep and goats against various economically important diseases while treatment was provided to 4.73 lac sheep and goats against various ailments. Moreover, 78 First Aid Camps have been established by the various organizations of the department at different locations of all the migratory routes of Jammu division to provide first aid to the sheep and goats during the ongoing migration from highland pastures to their respective winter headquarters.
The Director Sheep Husbandry Department, Jammu emphasized upon the field and farm officers of the department to redouble their efforts for delivering the services to the farmers and breeders more effectively so that the target fixed by the department are achieved well in time.
