Srinagar, January 11: Sunday saw the visit of Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari to Srinagar in order to condole the death of J&K Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. Gadkari Met the former CM’s daughter Mehbooba Mufti to convey condolences on the behalf of Central Government and BJP.
Though he called the meeting clearly unprofessional and apolitical but he also dropped off few hints that Modi led BJP government at the centre will surely fulfil Mufti’s dream regarding Kashmir.
“I have come here to express condolences on behalf of the Government of India and the party. I feel that today is not the day to talk about politics,” was his statement to the members of media waiting outside Mehbooba’s residence for his comment.
Also, he was accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh and state BJP president Sat Paul Sharma and there were no other PDP leader present in the house during his meeting with Mehbooba, the reports in a local daily revealed. This was however not the case when Sonia Gandhi was expected. All the leaders were present to welcome the Congress Chief.
The Union Minister arrived at Mufti’s residence at 3.57 pm and came out of the house at 4.11 pm. Recalling his earlier interactions with the late Chief Minister, Gadkari said that he had met him over lunch in Delhi and they talked for about 30 long minutes. He said that during his meeting, Mufti talked to him about his dream for about Kashmir and its people. There were also discussions regarding politics, development of infrastructure and tourism in the state.
