Jammu: The Gammon India Ltd. who is authorised to construct the National Highway from Jammu to Srinagar, has been allegedly dumping the waste from the construction site that in turn is getting accumulated in front of the locals houses. Meena, a resident of Peerah, a village in Chanderkot in Ramban District has complained against the construction company.
The woman said that her house and her land are not under the jurisdiction of the four-laning project but her house has been made a dumping site. She added that all the locals went complaining to the DC Ramban, Mohammad Ajaz, and he in turn asked the Tehsildar to go visit the site.
The locals said that they were promised that the dumping of the waste would stop but it only did for a few days and later the construction company reverted to littering their households.
Meena added that a local goon, Suram Singh Bandral, who apparently calls himself the right-hand of a Cabinet Minister, and he goes on threatening the locals and tells them openly that their complaints won’t be attended and even going to the DC will not help.
The hapless people have been going around to the offices of all the departments to get attention and some relief as the waste that is dumped right in front of their houses has managed to damage their homes. The stones and other waste from the construction site is even hazardous to their health, the locals added.
According to the people, the poor and underprivileged people of the area are suppressed by the well off people.
