Gandhi Global Family discusses United Nations SDGs with students
Jammu : Gandhi Global Family (GGF), a United Nations affiliated Peace NGO, organised an open discussion between its Vice President Padmashri S P Varma & the students of Oriental Academy School on the role of students in implementing United Nations Sustainable development Goals (SDGs) in Jammu city. The function started with a brief on “Peace and the role of UN” by the Principal of the School.
Sustainable Development Goals are officially known as “Transforming our world: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development” is a set of seventeen aspirational “Global Goals” with 169 targets between them. In order to make it possible at local level, UNIC New Delhi, GGF & GPF collaborated with 17 Schools of Jammu to Transform Jammu City.
Oriental Academy is a partner school to Gandhi Global Family in spreading the Goal 7 of UN SDGs i.e. Affordable and Clean Energy among its students.
Padmashri S P Varma in his address emphasized the importance of SDGs Assemblies in providing students with a platform to voice their opinions and to discuss issues that affect their city. He further shed light on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adding that youth have a crucial role to play in achieving the SDGs. Later he congratulated the Principal and the staff members of the school in organising SDGs Assembly. A quiz based on United Nations SDGs was also conducted by the Gandhi Global Family in which a large number of students participated enthusiastically and gave answers confidently to all the questions.
Mr Chauhan, Principal of the school, thanked the guests and Gandhi Global Family for giving an opportunity to the students to test and widen their knowledge base by organising such discussion & Quiz competitions.
