GDC Kishtwar is in a shambles; Why are the authorities sleeping?
Citizen Report by Dawood Bashir
Kishtwar, November 14: Government Degree College Kishtwar which was established way back in 1986 by the then Governor of J&K state after a long agitation by the locals wherein many a person sacrificed their lives for the noble cause of degree college and district status is in total shambles today. The aim of establishing such an institution was to make education available at doorstep but the fact is it still remains a dream. The college lacks infrastructure, does not have sufficient posts of professors, accounts assistants and other staff has badly hampered the functioning of college.
The condition of GDC Kishtwar is at its worst, college ground is full of bushes and has turned to be full of potholes, there is no toilet facility for the students, drinking water is again unhygienic, no infrastructure, most of the staff being contractual hampers the well being of studies in the college.
For over 1200 students there are only few classrooms that too being taught on rotational bases due to shortage of classrooms leading to loss of precious time and free roaming of students in the campus.
As a matter of fact degree college is not having the medical and non medical blocks, these courses were started more than 15 years ago but till now no building for such subjects has been constructed. This is totally a failure on the part of Jammu university and state government authorities.
Locals have demanded introduction of more subjects at the earliest so that local students doesn’t suffer anymore and demanded that a women’s college be sanctioned for Kishtwar and fulfilment of all the posts at college, that too permanent staff.
