Geelani defies detention orders, arrested

Srinagar, June 19: Police on Friday arrested Hurriyat conference (G) chairman, Syed Ali Geelani, after he defied detention orders and came out of his residence, police said.
Geelani was under house detention since many days however he tried to defy the detention order today.
Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Mohammad Yasin Malik had called a joint march to Sopore, today to protest the recent target killings in the town. All the frontline separatists were arrested or detained to foil their Sopore march.
Geelani tried to break the police cordon and march towards Sopore, police swung into action and arrested him along with many supporters.
They include Syed Imtiyaz Hyder etc. Geelani was shifted to police station Humhama, police said.
