Srinagar, Aug 30: As has been reportedly widely in the past week, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has been keeping a close eye on over 25 accounts in the valley receiving funds from out of country locations. Now the NIA has started the process of summoning the separatist leaders and associates for their alleged role in using these funds to fuel Kashmir unrest.
According to publicised media reports the relatives of separatist leaders like Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Mohammad Yasin Malik, Syeda Asiya Andrabi and Shabir Ahmad Shah are also under scanner these days.
The NIA has allegedly issued a notice Syed Ali Geelani’s eldest son, Dr. Naeem Geelani in a case of alleged receipt of funds from outside the country. Dr. Naeem Geelani has been asked to visit the NIA office at Sonwar here to elaborate on the transfer of funds.
It has already been reported that funds amounting to around Rs 30 Crore have found their way in various accounts in Kashmir and the money immediately withdrawn to escape detection. The separatist leaders are not receiving the amount of their own and they are receiving the same through conduits.
Sources have maintained that some leaders and conduits may be arrested as the picture gets clearer in the coming days.
On the other hand, Hurriyat Conference headed by Syed Ali Geelani on the notice sent to Dr Naeem Geelani said that Geelani’s family is being ‘terrified’ and ‘maligned’ in a well knit ‘conspiracy’.
